Privacy policy
This policy explains how learn.stemnestacademy.co.uk (the "Learning Hub") handles information. The Learning Hub is run by StemNest Academy. For our classes and student accounts, our main privacy policy also applies.
The short version
- You can read every guide without an account and without giving us any personal details.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which guides are useful.
- If a StemNest student is logged in on stemnestacademy.co.uk, the time they spend reading guides is added to their own progress report.
- In future we may show advertising from Google on this site; if we do, this page will be updated first.
Information we collect
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, and your approximate location (country or city, based on a shortened IP address). This helps us understand which guides are helpful and what to write next. Google's use of this data is described in Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings.
Study time for StemNest students
Students of StemNest Academy receive progress reports that include time spent on our learning resources. If you are logged in to a student account on stemnestacademy.co.uk in the same browser, each minute of active reading on the Learning Hub is added to that student's study-time total. We record only the number of minutes, the day, and that the time was spent on the Learning Hub — not which pages were read. Nothing is recorded for visitors who are not logged-in students.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you and to improve the Learning Hub.
Advertising
The Learning Hub may in future display advertisements served by Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and learn more at www.aboutads.info. Where the law requires it (for example in the UK and the European Economic Area), we will ask for your consent before personalised advertising cookies are used.
Children
Our guides are written for young learners, and we do not ask readers to create accounts or share personal information on the Learning Hub. Student accounts are created by StemNest Academy with a parent or guardian, under our main privacy policy. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the UK GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to how it is used. To make a request, email hello@stemnestacademy.co.uk.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the way we use information changes, and change the "Last updated" date above.
